ACM's In Vegas BABY!

Well last week I went to Sin City to work the Academy Of Country Music Awards. The trip was paid for by Westwood One, but since we live nearby, they made us drive to Vegas in our own cars! Oh Well! I guess if you consider the time it takes to go to the airport, check in, fly, land, deplane, wait for luggage, wait for taxi, check in to room, it easier just to drive!!

While there we were required to interview a ton of country stars! Here's how it works. We get up early to do our regular 5 to 9am show to the Inland Empire, then at 10am the stars begin to arrive. Now, we're in this conference room with about 35 other radio stations from across the country. Each artist gets escorted around the room to various stations. When they stop at our table, we get exactly 5 minutes with them.... that includes the interview, picture taking, and autographs. They get escorted away and before you know it, another artists is brought in! This goes on for 4 hours!!

Scott and Tommy left on Tuesday after a second round of interviews. That left me to attend the actual awards show on my own. I had a blast! It's amazing how they put on a live national broadcast for the East Coast. They treat it just like you're watching TV. You're get to watch a video feed while the show is going on... even the commercials!!!!

It was the coolest! Afterwards I was invited to attend an after party thrown by Capitol Records. It was an amazing experience! There was a lot of record star power in this room. I couldn't believe I was there! I finally turned in at about 4:30am!! I set a wake up call at 6:30am so I would be able to call in to K-Frog to give a recap of the show. I don't even remember making that call. Later when I returned to the radio station I listened to my mummbling self back on tape!! WOW I was out of it!!!

Never would have listened to country music in a million years, actually I would've rather watched an Arabic version (with english subtitles, of course) of our Commander In Chief's State of the Union Address in Iraq than listen to Country Music. But, my life has changed. How you ask? Well I was one of the fortunate ones to watch Toby Keith in concert out here in Baghdad a few days ago. He sure can put on a show. I have asked my wife to purchase some CD's of this guy and send them to me so I can learn more about this country music star. Do you have any particular suggestions? How about some other country singers that are similar to Toby?
Take care and be careful, the Inland Empire can be rough at night.

That's Awesome! Stay safe out there! If you like Toby Keith, then may I also recommend, others like: Daryll Worley, Alan Jackson, Little Big Town, Dierks Bentley.... I'm also new to Country Music, and these artists really impact me with thier songs and stories!

Later "OohRah" back at you!!

Hey J.B.
How is life in the I.E.? Hope things are country. Unfortunately I still have my country music deficiency. My beautiful wife Minnie mailed me my Toby Keith but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm outta town right now with no access to a music store. Actually the last time I wrote I was in prison. (Abu Ghraib) Did a 3 month stint and they released me on good behavior. Only to be picked up and detained again (CMOC). I think I will be here till October of this year. Wish me luck.
I will have to wait til I get home to listen to the other Country music stars that you suggested, cause I really have no access to a music store right now. Maybe my wife can pick up some and mail them to me.
Have a happy fourth and remember our Marines,Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen that are still fighting for y'all.
